El Pital Mountain

Cerro El Pital is located in the municipality of San Ignacio in the department of Chalatenango, El Salvador. It is the highest point in El Salvador with an elevevation of 2.730 msnm. El Pital has a forest consisting in trees such as pine, oak and cypress.




The top of the mountain is called "La Horqueta" and it is of great turists atracction, Because there is where the border with Honduras is located. The weather in El Pital is very cool and foggy the weather there is 10 degrees °C. El Pital is a perfect place for a family picnic with a wide field and beautiful landscapes.

People come to this mountain wanting to do several activities such as:
flora and fauna watching, walking on the trails and you can even practice canopy there.

The entrance to El pital is $2.00 for adults and $1 for children. For camping the price is $4.00 and for practicing canopy $3.00.




How to get there?  Drive on highway CA-4 to the municipality of San Ignacio, Chalatenango, then go to the Canton Rio Chiquito. After a journey of approximately 12 kilometers when you get to Rio Chiquito, you must turn left and go 3 miles to get to El Pital. You need a four wheel drive vehicle (4x4).


If you don't have a car DO NOT WORRY!. There in San Ignacio you will find a truck,which is going to take you untill El Pital!
